Unicorn Pitch Grand Final 2026: A Sold-Out Night for Düsseldorf’s Startup Scene

26. Mai 2026Communication
Der Unicorn Pitch Grand Final 2026 once again showed why it has become one of the most in-demand startup events in Düsseldorf.
All 125 tickets were sold out well in advance, and requests kept coming even after capacity was reached. This level of demand reflects how strongly the format has established itself within the ecosystem built by StartupDorf.
On a sunny evening at the rooftop of HEUKING, founders, investors, and corporate representatives came together for one of the strongest editions to date.
Five Startups, Ten Minutes, Full Focus
The format is simple and demanding: five minutes to pitch, followed by five minutes of questions from the jury.
Originally, six startups were scheduled to compete. Due to a last-minute cancellation by Theresa Voß from Chunx for health reasons, five teams took the stage:
• Vaestro
• dailyvents
• famville
• FLEXXI Care
• MindElevate
Each team had limited time to present a clear and convincing case. The format rewards focus, clarity, and strong storytelling.
Vaestro Takes the Double Win
The defining moment of the evening came from Vaestro
The team secured both:
• 1st place by the jury
• 1st place in the audience vote
Die double win is rare and signals strong alignment between expert evaluation and market appeal.
Vaestro tackles a pressing challenge: enabling the energy transition in multi-family buildings. By combining co-investment models with subsidies, the startup significantly reduces upfront costs for property owners. The result is a solution that is both economically viable and environmentally relevant.
The winner’s prize was sponsored by Holvi, a new supporting member of StartupDorf.
A Competitive Field Across Industries
The remaining podium positions underline how strong the competition was:
2nd place (jury): dailyvents
3rd place (jury): famville
dailyvents is building a platform that simplifies access to casual sports activities, already showing early traction in several German cities.
famville focuses on families, offering a digital solution to organize activities and connect parents with similar needs. A clear and relatable use case.
Also on stage were FLEXXI Care und MindElevate, completing a lineup that reflected the diversity of the NRW startup ecosystem.
A Jury Decision That Took Time
The jury discussion was extensive, which is typical for the format. This year, the variety of business models made the decision particularly complex.
Startups from different sectors and stages are difficult to compare directly. This led to a deeper evaluation process and reflects the overall quality of the pitches.
From Startup Stage to Exit: Sascha Poggemann
A notable member of the jury was Sascha Poggemann, COO of Cognigy.
Cognigy is one of Düsseldorf’s most successful startup stories. The company built a leading platform for conversational AI and achieved a major exit in recent years. This represents a trajectory many founders aim for.
The connection to StartupDorf adds another layer. In its early days, Cognigy was part of the network and presented on a similar stage. Today, Sascha returns as a jury member, evaluating new startups instead of pitching himself.
This development illustrates what a functioning ecosystem can enable: early support, long-term growth, and experienced founders giving back.
A Jury with Complementary Expertise
The jury combined perspectives from key areas of the startup journey:
• Ilona Schütz from Heuking, advising on funding rounds
• Nicole Karuvallil from TechHub.K67, focused on community and talent
• David Rahn from NRW.BANK, supporting early-stage financing
This combination ensured a well-rounded evaluation of each startup.
A Setting That Enables Real Connections
The event took place at Heuking in Düsseldorf.
With good weather, strong attendance, and a high density of investors and corporates, the setting supported meaningful exchanges beyond the stage.
Guests traveled from cities such as Berlin and Munich, highlighting the growing relevance of the event beyond NRW.
